Telegram Paid Media, Paid Messages and Channel Subscriptions Explained for Fans
Oleh TeleSearch Editorial Team · Diterbitkan · Hanya 18+
Telegram has three built-in ways for creators to charge fans, all paid in Telegram Stars: paid media (a blurred photo or video you unlock for a set number of Stars), channel subscriptions (a monthly Stars price to join a channel) and paid messages (a Stars fee some accounts charge to receive messages from people who are not their contacts). In every case Telegram shows the price before you confirm, and the payment stays inside the app.
These features changed how creators earn on Telegram, and they are often confused with each other or with scams that imitate them. This guide explains each one from a fan's point of view. If you are new to Stars themselves, start with Telegram Stars explained. TeleSearch is for adults (18+) only, does not sell Stars and takes no part in payments.
A thirty-second refresher on Stars
Telegram Stars are an in-app currency. You buy them through the App Store, Google Play or Telegram's own purchase flow, and Telegram shows the price in your currency at that moment. App store purchases include the store's commission, so the same pack can cost more on mobile than through Telegram's own flow. Creators receive Stars and can convert them later under Telegram's rules, which include a waiting period before payout. App stores and payment processors take their own cuts when Stars are bought. Our Stars calculator converts Stars to dollars for a rough idea of value.
Paid media
What it is
A creator posts a photo, video or album that appears blurred, with a Stars price on top. Tapping it shows the price; confirming unlocks it for you. Paid media is most common in channels, and Telegram has extended it to other places such as bots.
What you see before paying
The price in Stars, the number of items in the post, and the account or channel that posted it. You do not see the content itself before paying, which is the point, so the only thing you can judge is who posted it.
Things to know
- Who receives the Stars is the owner of the channel or bot where the post appears. If that channel is not the creator's own, your Stars do not go to the creator. Check that the channel is linked from the creator's own profiles.
- Unlocks are per post. Paying for one post does not unlock the rest of the channel.
- Refunds are limited. Star purchases are final under Telegram's terms. If a bot did not deliver what you paid for, send it /paysupport; if that fails, report the transaction from Settings > My Stars.
Channel subscriptions
What it is
A creator can create an invite link to a channel that requires a monthly payment in Stars. Joining through that link charges you once a month while you stay subscribed.
What you see before paying
The channel's name and photo, the monthly price in Stars, and a confirmation screen. After joining, the subscription appears in your Stars settings, where you can see when it renews.
Things to know
- Cancel anytime from Settings, in the Stars section, where active subscriptions are listed. Cancelling usually keeps access until the end of the period you paid for.
- A subscription is to a channel, not to a person. A channel is a one-way broadcast. It does not give you a private conversation with the creator. See personal account vs channel vs group.
- Check who runs the channel. As with paid media, make sure the creator links to it from profiles you trust.
Paid messages
What it is
Telegram Premium users (and group admins) can set a price in Stars for messages from people who are not in their contacts. Contacts and people they messaged first are exempt, and they can exempt specific users or refund Stars already paid. If a creator has switched this on, sending them a message costs the amount they set, per message.
What you see before paying
When you open a chat with an account that charges for messages, Telegram shows the price before you send, and asks you to confirm. Nothing is charged silently.
Things to know
- It is optional for the creator. Most personal accounts are free to message. On TeleSearch, opening a creator's listing and sending a first message costs nothing unless the creator has enabled this Telegram feature.
- Write one clear message rather than several short ones if each message is charged.
- It does not guarantee a reply. You pay for delivery, not for an answer.
Other Stars features you may see
- Paid reactions: in some channels you can send Stars as a reaction to support a post. The number of Stars is visible on the reaction.
- Gifts: Telegram has digital gifts bought with Stars that appear on a profile. Gifts are a way of showing appreciation, not a payment for a service.
- Bot purchases: bots can sell digital goods or services in Stars. Be careful with bots that claim to belong to a creator; check the bot is linked from the creator's own profiles.
How to use paid features safely
Telegram's Stars flow is one of the safer ways to pay a creator, because your card details stay with the app store or Telegram and the price is shown up front. The risks are mostly about who you are paying:
- Confirm the account or channel. Compare the @username with the one the creator publishes on their long-standing profiles. Directory listings on TeleSearch are checked to be live personal accounts (how we verify), which is a good starting point for finding the creator's direct account.
- Buy Stars only inside Telegram. Third-party sites that sell "cheap Stars" or ask you to log in with your Telegram code are a common phishing trick. See how to avoid phishing links.
- Never send Stars because someone asked you to "verify" or "unlock your account". Stars are for content and support, not for security checks.
- Set a budget. Paid posts and messages add up. The Stars section in Settings shows your balance and history.

Telegram payments vs paying outside Telegram
Some creators prefer to be paid outside Telegram, for example through a subscription platform or a payment link. That is their choice, and it is not a red flag on its own. The difference for you is protection: inside Telegram, the price is shown by the app and your card details stay with the app store or Telegram; outside it, protection depends on the method you use. Whichever route you take, confirm the account first and never pay because of a countdown or a threat.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Telegram Premium to pay with Stars?
No. Any Telegram user can buy and spend Stars. Premium is a separate subscription.
Does it cost money to message a creator on Telegram?
Usually not. Messaging a personal account is free unless the creator has turned on Telegram's paid messages feature, in which case Telegram shows the price before you send.
Can I get my Stars back if I don't like a paid post?
Generally no. Star purchases are final under Telegram's terms. If a bot did not deliver what you paid for, send it /paysupport; if that fails, report the transaction from Settings > My Stars. Look at who posted the content and their history before unlocking.
How do I cancel a Telegram channel subscription?
Open Settings, go to the Stars section and find your active subscriptions. Cancel there; access usually continues until the end of the paid period.
Does TeleSearch sell Stars or take a share of payments?
No. TeleSearch lists links to creators' personal Telegram accounts and takes no part in payments between fans and creators.
