What Telegram scams should fans avoid?

The scams that hit fans most are impersonation (a copy of a creator's name and photo on a different username), 'pay first' pressure with gift cards or crypto, fake unlock bots and channels, and accounts that message you first. The defence is simple: compare the exact username with the creator's other public profiles, only use personal accounts, and never pay before the identity is confirmed.

Impersonation

The most common scam. Someone copies a creator's display name, photo and bio, and waits for fans to find the copy. The giveaway is the username: it is unique and cannot be copied. Compare it letter by letter with the one the creator publishes on Instagram, X or their link page, and with the one listed on TeleSearch, which we check against t.me.

The account that writes first

Real creators rarely open conversations with strangers. An account that messages you first, especially with a deal or a 'free preview', is almost always a scam or a bot. Do not click links, do not reply with personal data.

Pay-first pressure

Countdowns, 'last spot', 'pay now or lose it', and above all requests for gift cards, prepaid cards or a crypto wallet address in the first messages. Legitimate creators explain the offer calmly and accept a normal payment method. If you must pay before you have confirmed who you are talking to, walk away.

Fake channels and unlock bots

Copycats set up a channel or a bot named after the creator because it takes a minute and looks official. A channel cannot chat with you; a bot can take your money. TeleSearch lists personal accounts only and refuses channels, groups and bots for exactly this reason.

Phishing and 'verification' links

Links that ask you to log in to Telegram again, to 'verify your age' on an unknown site, or to install an app are phishing. Telegram never asks for your login code through a chat. Never share the code you receive by SMS or in Telegram with anyone.

If you have been scammed

Report the account in Telegram (profile, three dots, Report). If the account is listed on TeleSearch, use our Report page and we remove it. Contact your payment provider quickly; card payments can sometimes be reversed, gift cards and crypto usually cannot.

Questions

How do I check a username?

Open t.me/<username> and compare it with the username on the creator's other public profiles and on TeleSearch. The display name and photo can be copied; the username cannot.

Can Telegram refund a scam payment?

Telegram does not handle direct payments. For Stars, refunds follow the store's rules. Contact your bank for card payments.

Does a listing on TeleSearch guarantee safety?

It confirms the account is a real personal account and that the link was checked on the date shown. It does not guarantee the content of any conversation or transaction.
